Our Services

Our volunteers provide free rides for qualifying adults to doctors, dentists, therapists, pharmacies, or grocery stores. Older adults (50+) living in our local community of McLean, Arlington, or Falls Church may apply. Applicants are screened and interviewed, then registered as clients when accepted. Clients email or call in requests for rides, which can be one way or round trip. There are no income-level requirements, financial contributions are appreciated but not required. Volunteer

Make a difference in the lives of your neighbors! Drive seniors to medical & dental appointments or errands like grocery stores & pharmacies, on your own schedule when time permits. Show older adults that they are an integral part of our caring community, and deserve to live independently with dignity. There is no minimum commitment – you choose when, where, and how often to help. After a quick background check and screening interview, you will receive the list of available rides and can select what works for you – it’s that simple!

Appointment Drivers

Our volunteer drivers pick up our clients at their homes and drive them to doctor’s appointments. Drivers may wait for their clients at the doctor’s office or agree to come back at a specific time to pick him or her up and drive back home. The Shepherd’s Center can also provide one-way rides as needed, in addition to providing rides to the grocery store or drug store.

Handy Helpers Program

Are you a senior or do you know a senior who sometimes needs help with simple home repairs?

Volunteers for our Handy Helpers program assist our clients with basic household chores like changing a light bulb, hanging a picture, or doing light yard work. If you are interested in our Handy Helper program please call the office at (703) 506-2199, email us at contact@scmafc.org or click here to learn more about our Services.

Ride Coordinators

Volunteers take incoming calls from our clients, note the details about rides that are needed (time, date, destination, doctor’s name, duration of the ride) and enter the information into our online Ride Scheduler system for drivers to review.
